Follow our trip from Victoria to San Fran!

The day of all days has arrived!  Mayaluga and her crew are setting off today for San Fransisco – the first leg of our journey to the South Pacific.  One of our crew, Keith James, has kindly provided the use of his Tracker, so you can follow our progress down to San Fran with this link.  (Its so cool, I think I might be convinced to purchase one for our continued use!)  We first met Keith a few years back when he crewed for Tony on the 2012 Vic Maui Yacht Race.  We’ve become fast friends ever since.

Here you can not only see where we are and where we’ve been but also our speed and some other cool stuff!

Join the adventure!

We expect our trip to take about 8 days, weather and wind dependant.  The weather, wind and sea conditions out on the Pacific look almost perfect at the moment and look as though they will hold for our trip south.  Our intention is to head off the coast once we round the bend at Cape Flattery and go offshore about 200 miles.  We will be buddy boating with our new friends Ian and Helen aboard Nighttide, a Liberty 46.

Our fourth crew member is Ben Snyders, a new friend who pilots for Westjet during his day job.  Joining the crew with some gulf islands sailing experience, he was a star yesterday when we took Mayaluga out for a test run with gusts of over 40 knots of the Victoria waterfront.  He took the wheel and not one bead of sweat was evident.  Must be all that pilot training!  🙂  Thanks Steve for the introduction.  Ben is a great addition to the Mayaluga crew!

It looks like we will be able to post updates without a WIFI connection through our Single Sideband Radio.  I haven’t tested it yet, so no guarantees.  Fingers crossed!

Bon Voyage everyone!

  1. Hi Karin & Tony,
Congratulations on your fast passage to SF, I hope you had fun during the 7 1/2 days! I tried to follow your progress on Keith’s tracker but the link from your blog always showed it in Victoria, so I was glad to read about your arrival on Nightide’s blog. Looking forward to reading more about it on your blog.
    Connie
