Mayaluga hosts “green” crew
Everyone who knows me knows that I am a bit of a political animal. I love all things Green and Bernie Sanders! Last year, I twisted Tony’s arm to let me donate a 4 hour sail for 4 on Mayaluga with a locavore lunch as a silent auction fundraising item for Frances Litman, who was running as the federal Green candidate in our riding of Esquimalt Saanich Sooke. Tony loves me, so he agreed! 🙂 (Actually, I twisted his arm twice – the second time to support a great, local event called Creatively United for the Planet. We will be hosting those folks next week!) Our donation was a success as it raised $350 for the campaign! The buyer was Andrew McGinnis who, it turns out, is a nautical junky!
Andrew, his wife Gail, Gail’s sister Suzy and her husband Rory joined Tony and I on Mayaluga recently for a wonderful sail and lunch stop. The sun was shining, temperature was about 18C and west south west winds blowing from 15 – 18 knots. Perfect for a sail from Victoria harbour to Albert Head and back again, beam reach all the way.
Everyone seemed to have a good time, in particular Andrew who took the wheel for much of the trip. For someone who has never sailed before, he did a marvelous job of it! Tony and I enjoyed meeting new friends and sharing our love of sailing and this magnificent place we call home with them!
What an enjoyable afternoon with two very lovely hosts! A perfect day for sailing and quite an experience for the four of us who have never really sailed before, let alone on the Mayaluga, a beautifully appointed sailboat. Many thanks for the wonderful experience. You both are truly inspiring.
