Imagine joining us in the South Pacific!!
Imagine joining us in the Sea of Cortez, or in Tahiti maybe? Ten days in the fabulous islands and atolls of the South Pacific will change your life! Alternatively you may prefer a longer ocean passage ……….
Have you ever dreamed of ….
- enjoying a secluded anchorage in a south seas atoll?
- warm tropical breezes gently caressing your almost naked body?
- pristine white beaches just waiting for the imprint of your footprints?
- snorkeling in warm crystal-clear waters?
- a glass of wine in the cockpit at sunset?
-
delectable cuisine prepared just as you prefer it?
Well ….. you can make this a reality in your life! Join us on a leg or two aboard the fine ship, Mayaluga on a “shared expense” basis. Firstly, we only take you aboard if you are a friend or part of our extended family. Exceptions may be made for those who come highly recommended by friends or family!! Simply contact us to discuss options. We would love to have you aboard anywhere from a few days to a week or two, or three or four or even more!
We DO NOT charge for the privilege of coming aboard. Repeat … we do NOT charge! We do however ask you to contribute to the expenses incurred while you are aboard with us. This is negotiable depending on the circumstances and the location. Longer ocean-going legs may require less contribution on a daily basis because you may be tasked with helping to run the vessel and take regular watches.
Typically expenses include food, a glass of wine or two in the evenings, towels, sheets and blankets or sleeping bags. It also includes use of the inflatable dinghy and fuel for the outboard. Your contribution also defrays the running of Mayaluga and includes, diesel fuel, maintenance and other supplies such as water and oil filters. It also includes the high-pressure membranes for the water desalinator. Finally, the fact of the matter is, guests aboard any vessel have a tendancy to be hard on equipment and “break” things; not because of carelessness, but generally because everything is strange and unfamiliar.
The following itinerary is simply to whet your appetite and to provide a general idea of what you may expect. It will not be exactly replicated, but your personal preferences will be taken into account as we plan the actual event. It will however be beyond fabulous!
Day 1 City of Papeete, Tahiti
Come aboard and get settled into your private double-cabin aboard Mayaluga … your home for the next 10 days in one of the the most fabulous destinations on earth. Enjoy sun-downers in the cockpit at 1800hrs (6:00pm). Discussion will center on the itinerary for tomorrow and the next few days to ensure that we give preference to your preferred activities and lifestyle. A simple but delicious dinner will probably be welcome after your long flight. Early to bed!
Day 2 Sail west to Moorea
Believed to have inspired the mythical Bali Hai from James Michener’s Tales of the South Pacific, Moorea is one of the most scenically striking islands in French Polynesia. Despite her immaculate beauty, she is far from unapproachable. Possessing a relaxed vibe and welcoming spirit, Moorea is just as warm and inviting as the Tahitians lucky enough to call this island their home.
Moorea is an easy half day sail from Papeete and is only ten nautical miles as the crow flies from Papeete.
The attraction of Moorea comes as no surprise; the island is a geographical marvel; eight voluminous mountain peaks rise majestically from its translucent lagoon, creating a distinctive and rugged silhouette visible from the western coast of Tahiti. Splitting the northern shore are two symmetrical bays: Cook’s (Paopao) and Opunohu Bay. The island is roughly shaped like a heart from overhead; and in the theme of love and romance, Moorea is one of the top honeymoon destinations in Tahiti—second only to Bora Bora.
Imagine anchoring in 20 feet of warm crystal clear water, flopping over the side for an early afternoon swim or snorkel; lie for a while on the air mattress to get a bit of a tan, or swing over the water lounging in the hammock strung from the spinnaker pole.
As it cools off later in the day, take the zodiac and motor over to the shore for a walk on the pristine beach. Maybe you will be fortunate enough to see some manta rays. Stop and see how close they will swim! Just make sure you get back in time for sundowners and dinner!
Day 3 Moorea and sail west to Raiatea
Spend the morning how you choose. Explore in the motorized inflatable, or swim and sunbathe on the inflatable mattress tied to Mayaluga. Resist lazing in the hammock or you may not want to leave at all. After an early lunch we set sail for the overnight passage to Raiatea. This enormous atoll is really two in one. An outer egg-timer shaped reef encloses both volcanic remnants and we will be exploring this unique paradise destination for the next few days.
Day 4 West to Raiatea
Late afternoon arrival the next day heralds the start to a relaxing and lazy few days. We choose a secluded anchorage for the first night. Go ashore after breakfast of home-made muesli and fruit. Leave your footprints on the pristine white beach; sit awhile in the shade of a palm tree. Hot? Wade off into the warm azure water and cool off before re-boarding your inflatable and zooming back to Mayaluga just in time for sundowners in the cockpit in the shade of the bimini. Tonight we dine around the salon table in style, steak off the BBQ with loaded baked potatoes and Greek salad and crab.
A hot fresh-water shower each evening (or morning) with water topped up each day into the 100 gallon supply tanks from the 20 gall per hour de-salinator. Sleep with the hatches and companionway open to the stars, or if you pefer, sleep in the cockpit under the stars!
Day 5 Raiatea
After breakfast of crepes fresh off the taiwa and loaded with fruit and yogurt, we lift the anchor and sail about 10 miles north inside the atoll reef and choose yet another perfect spot. Take a trip ashore with your hosts and visit the local market where we shop for fresh fruit and vegetables. After lunch your hosts will spear a fish or two for another delectable dinner. If you are up to it after dinner, a board game around the salon table; scrabble maybe?
Day 6 Raiatea
Yet another long lazy and totally “boring” day is spent in paradise. Later, in the coolness of the evening we lift anchor and move around to the west side of the atoll. We anchor within binocular distance of a resort built on stilts. As idyllic and romantic as the brochures say, they are captive to their location; we are not! Stilted bungalows at upwards of $1,000US per night, eat your hearts out! We are free to move location at will!
Day 7 Bora Bora
Breakfast of bacon, eggs, caramelized banana, parmesan-sprinkled fried eggs with toast…. yummy beyond belief. The protein sets you up for another day of adventure in the south-seas as we sail across to Bora Bora, the “romantic” atoll of French Polynesia and drop anchor in 20 feet of pristine clear water with the afternoon yet to enjoy.
Day 8 Bora Bora
Another morning in paradise to spend as you choose. Freshly baked bread from the oven and delicious breakfast. Snorkel amidst 1,000’s of brilliantly colored coral-fish. A packed picnic basket and beach blanket is ready for you to take ashore. Sit under a tree and enjoy the solitude of paradise. Open the basket, spread out the delicious goodies and discover that there is even a carafe of chilled wine! This afternoon we set sail back to Papeete for arrival tomorrow evening.
East back to Papeete and home (or onward to your next destination)
This will be your last night aboard as we recount adventures and experiences gained over the last few days. We will offload you and your belongings in downtown Papeete for shuttle transfer to the airport.
Regular flights are available from/to BC Canada through Los Angeles and/or Hawaii
I’ve only just looked at your blog Tony & Karin after reading your email detailing the work you’ve done and I’m looking forward to seeing Mayaluga today. You are both obviously richly enjoying the dream.
Thank you Al for your mentoring and your contribution through “Fleet Group” towards making this “dream” become a reality!
