Plastic Garbage and the Ocean
We have been thinking very seriously about how we will be able to manage the waste we produce on our South Sea adventure. What the heck do we so with our garbage? Its not like the islands and atolls we visit have the capacity to deal with this imported waste. Even here on the west coast of Canada, Gulf Islands like Galiano Island don’t accept bags of garbage from visiting boats. If its a problem here, we can be sure it will be a problem in the south pacific. Even things that we are able to recycle here in Victoria will become a problem. The only thing that seems easy is food waste. It can go overboard. Possibly paper too – not sure about that yet.
So, the planning begins. I found this article of interest – in particular #7.
You could always burn it on board to cook your food 😉
Now Charles, don’t burn your bridges with us! 🙂
